So, here I’m blogging away approximately 5,000 miles away from home. The past three days in the south of France have been nothing short of amazing. Juan-les-Pins, small little sea side town, is now my home away from home. Everyone here is a lot nicer than I thought. That’s just my American stereotypes coming into play, damn you media. It’s nothing like I expect and I guess that’s how it is no matter where you go. You expect something, but usually it doesn’t turn out that way.

Monaco, the Miami of south France. Fabulous resides there. Cliffside views, Ferrari’s, and amazing architecture fill the city with magnificent sights, sounds, and colors. After reaching the top of the Palace in Monaco, my breath was taking away. I have never seen a more beautiful spot in the world. The ocean below was crystal clear, not that Atlantic forest green but real blue.

Being here, half across the world has made me realize how small my own world actually is. In the words of Will Ferrell, “It’s mind-bottling.” There is so much more out there. I’m just a pin prick in the massive cushion that is the world. Hard to wrap the mind around unless it’s experienced first-hand.

While exploring Cannes, Bryan, Josh, and myself aka the wolf pack, escaped from the beaten path and stumbled upon something that I thought was truly extraordinary. Walking across the port side walk, we spotted what looked like an old fort on top of a mountain. So, we did what all great men do, explore. Taking the back alley ways, winding up and down steps we finally made it to the top and had a great view of Cannes. At the top was a cathedral, beautiful. On the way down, we decided to go a different way from whence we came, turned out to be a great idea. Halfway down we get to this small tower trapped in between houses. It was old. Huge black gated door. Hanging above was the Iron Mask. Yea, that’s right the real one that the movie was based on. A nice French chap translated for us. Apparently Louis 14th, twin brother used this tower has an escape and hideout. Never in my life did I imagine experiencing this.

And now comes my life observation. No maps. No direction. No plan. Just spot something that you want and head for it. Don’t run. Walk. Take it in. Along the way you find things, you never could have imagined. It’s the same with life. Don’t try and control it. Go along for the ride. After all it’s the ride of your life.
